It is an absorbable sterile surgical suture composed of purified connective tissues derived from the sub mucosal fibrous layer of ovine intestines. Chromic catgut is absorbed by proteolyticenzymes in body. Chromic catgut is treated with chromic salt solution to resist body enzymes, thereby prolonging the absorption time over 90 days.
