Bio-Gen blocks are rigid, cancellous bone blocks. Remodeling time is an average of 6-8 months, depending on the anatomical conditions of the site being grafted and on the type of surgery performed. Before being placed they must be shaped with rotating instruments to guarantee the best possible contact with the patient’s bone. Proper fixation is mandatory. The use of a long-lasting membrane (pericardium or cortical membrane) is mandatory. Proper flap management is necessary. Bio‐Gen bone blocks are indicated for vertical or vertical/horizontal augmentation in the upper jaw only. At the current time there’s no sufficient evidence for its effectiveness in the posterior lower jaw, expecially for vertical augmentations.The main feature of this block is that, since they show bone collagen preserved, they feature the same mechanical resistance to compression and elastic deformation of natural bone (superficial compression resistance is at least 300 kg/cm2). This means that these blocks can be shaped and drilled with rotating instruments, or fixed with screws or implants, without breaking (if thickness is not less than 3 mm).
